Birchbox July 2013 “Power Play” Women’s Box

July 2013 Women’s Birchbox Review

Birchbox

Suits Picks!

This month’s Birchbox featured items picked from women starring on the USA TV Show SUITS (Meghan Markle who plays Rachel Zane and Sarah Rafferty who plays Donna Paulsen). The July theme is “Power Play”, which makes sense because SUITS is a law firm drama series. The third season premiere is on July 16, 2013 on USA NETWORK. Birchbox is a monthly subscription service that is 10/month and offers full-sized/deluxe samples of hair, makeup, skin and lifestyle products.

Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream

The first product in my Birchbox this month is the Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream. I have heard amazing things about this product in terms of reducing under eye darkness and its rehydrating potential, so I’m excited to try it! It’s a decent sample size and comes in a little jar instead of a dreaded foil packet, so I’m happy.

Full Size 0.5 oz (card lists $34 but Birchbox lists as $32), Sample Size 0.1 oz ($6.40)

DDF Acne Control Treatment

The next product in my box was the DDF® Acne Control Treatment. I’ve never heard of this product before but it says on the label that it fights/controls acne, helps keep pores clear and soothes and restores clarity. It contains 1.5% Salicylic Acid. It’s a decent sample size and is actually the most expensive sample and product in my box this month. I don’t normally use an acne control treatment but I will definitely try this out and see how it works.

Full Size 1.7 oz ($44), Sample Size 0.5oz ($12.94)

Super Comb Prep and Protect

The third product in my box is the N.4 Super Comb Prep and Protect. The product is supposed to strengthen and repair as a leave in conditioner. Ironically I just purchased a leave in conditioner by Pantene, but I will definitely try out this product as well. It did not have a sample size on the bottle so I estimated it to be about 30 mL, which is a good travel sized product.

Full Size 200 mL ($32), Sample Size 30mL ($4.80)

TheBalm Cosmetics Instain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush

Swiss Dot

The fourth product in my box was the product I was most excited about possibly getting this month, TheBalm Cosmetics InStain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush. They sent me the color Swiss Dot…they weren’t kidding with the color or the size. It’s a dot, really, look at that sample size! The color is a nice peachy color which is perfect for my light but warm skin tone so I was happy with the color choice but wish there was more! I was pretty disappointed that this was not a full-sized product and I don’t feel I will be able to try this product out to its full potential. I guess I’ll have to save up my Birchbox points to try this out for real!

Full Size 0.09 oz ($22), Sample Size 0.018oz ($4.40)

BirchBox Bobby Pins

The Birchbox bonus this month was the Birchbox Bobby Pins. The sample was 2 pins which I will definitely use. I don’t always like to have my hair up and to have something to at least keep my hair out of my face will be nice….plus they are super cute!!

Full Size 6 Pins ($5), Sample Size 2 Pins=$1.67

Benefit Card

BirchBox Products

So overall, the value of my July Box is $30.21, which is pretty good considering it was only $10. I do wish they would have skipped the hair and acne treatment samples and just sent me a full-sized InStain blush, but at least all the samples were decent sizes. What was in your box this month? Let me know in the comment box below!
