Makeup and Brush Haul!

So I went shopping today for the first time in like forever. I have been meaning to pickup some new brushes because mine are due for a good cleaning and its always good to have spares! I also picked up some eye shadow duos and quads. I was so excited that I actually decided to film this “haul”! Let me know what you think! I was actually so excited that I left out one eye shadow duo, my makeup sponge wedges and a contouring brush. Oh well. It was fun to film.

Here is the link to my video!

Would You Rather Tag!

Hello everyone! I hope summer has been a fun, exciting and a relaxing time for you! I’ve dropped off the blog grid for the past couple weeks, mostly due to an increase in my work hours and also trying to get all my student loan payments and the like situated. However, in the mean time I have received my IPSY bag and the new Hautelook summer bag and will be in the process of posting those blogs for you for July! Till then, I was tagged by (Shauna) for the Would You Rather Tag! Her blog is just full of awesomeness and updated often so please stop by and check her out!

Let’s get started with my first tag!

1. Would you rather lose all your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?

This one is tough, mostly because I do tend to wear a lot of eye makeup. I don’t feel complete if I don’t have at least 2-3 different eye shadow shades or one of my Maybellene Color Tattoos (especially Bad to the Bronze)! However, I would have to say I would rather lose all of my palettes and eye shadows then all of my mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks and lipglosses. I can easily choose a fun eyeliner color that can help to serve as an eyeshadow, especially if I smudge it. Mascara can helps make your eyes pop and no eye shadow look, no matter how dramatic, would look right without mascara so its a must no matter what. All my family and friends know I own about a million lip glosses and lip products so I definitely need those in my life! I’m not a huge lipstick person but I do have to say, I have used one of the lipsticks I’ve received this month in my Hautelook Bag (LOVING my new NYX lipstick in Margarita).

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

As much as I don’t like super long hair, I don’t think I would want to intentionally chop all of it off. My hair is so thick that I tend to wear it in an updo anyway so I would just continue to throw it up into some sort of a pony, bun, or twisty thing I call a hairdo anyway, no matter the length.

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

If this was a question asked of me last year, I would have to say neither, because I didn’t really own any blush. Now I own quite a few and I have to say, a good blush can really help make a look. It can add such a healthy glow and brightens your face. I am in love with The Balm InStain blush sample in Swiss Dot that I received in my July Birchbox! I have to say, for such a small sample, it has lasted a long time due to its highly pigmented color. It’s a lovely coral color so I would have to say coral cheek.

4. If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

This would be a tough one because there is just so many high quality makeup products that I’ve wanted to try recently but clothes tend to last longer! I already have a ton of clothes that I love so this is kind of crazy…. I would have to choose makeup!

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick?

I would have to say lipstick as an eyeliner. I actually think a good lipstick would last pretty well as a creamy eyeliner if you had a good eye lid primer like NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

Oh Sephora most definitely. My cousin Jen and I were there for about 3 hours one day and could have probably stayed much longer if we didn’t want to make a stop at LUSH. Sephora is amazing because you can try out any product that you would want to purchase. I always feel confident with what I’m buying because I’ve already tried it out!

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

One lip color. I rarely wear a color on my lips anyway, I’m more of a sheer gloss or lip balm person. I love to wear multiple eye shadows at once and to change it up often so I need my palettes and color choices!

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in winter?

Summer clothes in the winter! I wear a tank top and shorts all year round in my apartment because I like to be cool. Jeans function all year round too and so do short sleeved shirts!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Oh definitely bright nails. I love orange, yellow, red, and pink polishes! Bright colors make me happy.

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

I love my lip products too much so I would have to say eye product. I can’t live without some type of lip gloss or balm.

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

My hair is almost always in a twisty messy bun. It’s quick and simple and I don’t need a mirror. If I’m going to do anything else, I have to put in effort so I wouldn’t mind a messy bun all the time!

12. Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?

Easy. Lip gloss=survival. I need my gloss!

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or Sharpie them in everyday?

I really do hate eyebrows, they are so annoying sometimes. Mine grow so fast and get thick and bushy. I always have to go get them waxed anyway so I guess if I finally had enough and shaved them in a fit of eyebrow rage, I would definitely Sharpie them in. I have the blackest eyebrows anyway and who doesn’t have a black Sharpie laying around already?

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nailpolish?

Oh definitely nailpolish. Makeup is essential for me!

Birchbox July 2013 “Power Play” Women’s Box

July 2013 Women’s Birchbox Review

Suits Picks!

This month’s Birchbox featured items picked from women starring on the USA TV Show SUITS (Meghan Markle who plays Rachel Zane and Sarah Rafferty who plays Donna Paulsen). The July theme is “Power Play”, which makes sense because SUITS is a law firm drama series. The third season premiere is on July 16, 2013 on USA NETWORK. Birchbox is a monthly subscription service that is 10/month and offers full-sized/deluxe samples of hair, makeup, skin and lifestyle products.

Birchbox July 2013

Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream

The first product in my Birchbox this month is the Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream. I have heard amazing things about this product in terms of reducing under eye darkness and its rehydrating potential, so I’m excited to try it! It’s a decent sample size and comes in a little jar instead of a dreaded foil packet, so I’m happy.

Full Size 0.5 oz (card lists $34 but Birchbox lists as $32), Sample Size 0.1 oz ($6.40)

DDF Acne Control Treatment

The next product in my box was the DDF® Acne Control Treatment. I’ve never heard of this product before but it says on the label that it fights/controls acne, helps keep pores clear and soothes and restores clarity. It contains 1.5% Salicylic Acid. It’s a decent sample size and is actually the most expensive sample and product in my box this month. I don’t normally use an acne control treatment but I will definitely try this out and see how it works.

Full Size 1.7 oz ($44), Sample Size 0.5oz ($12.94)

Super Comb Prep and Protect

The third product in my box is the N.4 Super Comb Prep and Protect. The product is supposed to strengthen and repair as a leave in conditioner. Ironically I just purchased a leave in conditioner by Pantene, but I will definitely try out this product as well. It did not have a sample size on the bottle so I estimated it to be about 30 mL, which is a good travel sized product.

Full Size 200 mL ($32), Sample Size 30mL ($4.80)

TheBalm Cosmetics Instain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush

Swiss Dot

The fourth product in my box was the product I was most excited about possibly getting this month, TheBalm Cosmetics InStain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush. They sent me the color Swiss Dot…they weren’t kidding with the color or the size. It’s a dot, really, look at that sample size! The color is a nice peachy color which is perfect for my light but warm skin tone so I was happy with the color choice but wish there was more! I was pretty disappointed that this was not a full-sized product and I don’t feel I will be able to try this product out to its full potential. I guess I’ll have to save up my Birchbox points to try this out for real!

Full Size 0.09 oz ($22), Sample Size 0.018oz ($4.40)

BirchBox Bobby Pins

The Birchbox bonus this month was the Birchbox Bobby Pins. The sample was 2 pins which I will definitely use. I don’t always like to have my hair up and to have something to at least keep my hair out of my face will be nice….plus they are super cute!!

Full Size 6 Pins ($5), Sample Size 2 Pins=$1.67

Benefit Card

BirchBox Products

So overall, the value of my July Box is $30.21, which is pretty good considering it was only $10. I do wish they would have skipped the hair and acne treatment samples and just sent me a full-sized InStain blush, but at least all the samples were decent sizes. What was in your box this month? Let me know in the comment box below!

Moroccan Oil…Summer’s Cure to Dull Limp Hair!

Normally, I find my thick brown hair to be shiny and full of body. The past few weeks my hair has been pretty much the complete opposite….dull and limp. I’ve tossed my hair into a ponytail more in the past few weeks then I think I ever have because I just couldn’t get it to look good no matter what I did. It looked like a lifeless brown mop on my head. I had heard great things about Moroccan Oil and how it can work miracles on hydrating and nourishing your hair back to life. I was desperate to get my hair some help so I knew I wanted to find some of this miracle oil.

I was shopping one day at Walmart browsing the various shampoos, conditioners and hair products when my eyes zoomed in on the Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Deep Conditioning Shine Mask. I’m not normally a Suave user but I figured what the heck, for $2.88, why not give it a try! I’m glad I did because THIS STUFF IS AWESOME!! I applied this mask to my hair while in the shower, let it sit for about 4 minutes, and then rinsed it out. The mask had a very light smell and I can only describe it as being “sweet”. I blow dried my hair slightly ( I don’t like to overdo heat styling in the summer but I have to dry it a little bit because I don’t like to go out with sopping wet hair) and went about my day. My hair felt so soft all day and retained such a sweet smell. I was really impressed. I was even more surprised the next day when I went to wash my hair and it STILL felt super soft and smelt so good. It didn’t look oily at all and just had so much body that I decided to not even wash it!

I ended up buying the daily conditioner as well which was also only $2.88. I’ve been using both for a week or so now and I’ve got to say, what a great way to revitalize your hair for only a few bucks! This was way too good of a steal to not share with everyone so if you need to give your hair back some life and don’t want to break the bank, I suggest trying the Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Shine Mask and/or Daily Conditioner!

How To Make Your Makeup Last All Day. Or Night. Or Both. Yeah, This Product is That Good.

Urban Decay Makeup Setting Spray

It’s July so that means it’s hot. Like really hot. If you live on the East Coast like me it’s not only hot right now, it’s also extremely humid. One of my biggest problems with makeup when it’s hot and humid is it tends to slide off my face. To prevent my makeup from looking like a hot mess, I use Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. This stuff is amazing. Since I tend to have oily skin, I like to spray about 5-6 sprays in both a “T” and an “X” across my face before I apply my foundation and then I repeat that step again to set the foundation. Then I brush some powder over my face and my makeup stays fresh all day. I went on vacation to Disney recently and I really got to try this stuff out in an extremely humid and hot climate and my makeup looked great all day. I am so happy to have found this little makeup gem! Does anyone else use a makeup setting spray? If so, which one is your favorite? Leave me your responses in the comment box below!!

*** I will be getting my July IPSY Glam Bag and my July Birchbox soon! I can’t wait to try out the July products! I will post reviews on both once I get to try the new products. I will also post my review for my June Glossybox within the next day or two! 🙂
